wedding: katie+jonathan 09.06.09

being snowed in today has given me the opportunity to get caught up on the blog. one down, just two more '09 weddings to go! it has been great fun to relive katie and jonathan's september 6th wedding again by looking through so many favorites. trying to decide which ones to share here on the blog has been a difficult task to say the least.

katie and jonathan's countryside wedding was held at glendower in scottsville, virginia, the home of the bride's family. i loved all of their personal touches from the vintage tractor adorned in flowers, the wedding cake lovingly made by a family friend, the bagpiper, the antique quilts covering the hay bales used as seats during the ceremony, not to mention how they utilized the family's heirloom vases to hold the flowers on the tables at the reception. the bride's mother and grandmother created all of the floral arrangements including the bride and bridesmaid's bouquets and the men's boutonnières.... amazing!

the ceremony was held on the hillside overlooking the vineyards, then cocktails were served up at the house immediately following... soon after, the party continued and a good time was had by all! the guests danced well into a mild late summer's evening under the big tent decorated in twinkling lights....oh to be summer again!

i'm happy to introduce lisa escue figgins of viva photography, based in chapel hill, nc. we met two years ago when she came out to photograph me at my farm and i immediately loved her! lisa is not only a marvelous photographer, she is outgoing, positive, full of ideas, and wonderful with people of all kinds. she has a calm nature about her, which puts one at ease in front of a camera.

this season, many of you will see lisa accompanying me at weddings, portrait sessions, and other events. lisa and i co-photographed several weddings in '09 and she also came along with me on several portrait sessions to assist me. this year we have weddings booked in virginia and in north carolina. we both love to travel and enjoy the adventure! its going to be a fun year and i'm super excited about working with her!

when lisa and i traveled up to virginia last spring for brooke's bridal session, my dad, also a professional photographer "snuck" these shots in of us at work...thanx, dad! if he keeps that up, i may have to hire him too :-) i'm grateful that my dad took these pics and that he offered his beautiful gardens for brooke's session. such great team work!

penn house wedding: samantha+kyle 8.22.09

samantha and kyle's wedding was held on a balmy august evening this past summer in the gardens of the penn house in nearby reidsville, north carolina. my assistant, lisa of viva photography and i'd met the happy couple several months prior in chapel hill for their e-session and we just knew we would have a blast photographing their wedding...and we surely did! its unbelievable that five months have gone by since, but its never too late to post a few of my favorites. it was difficult to choose which images to post, i'll let them speak for themselves. however, comments are always welcome so please leave yours! we'd love to hear from you!
