newport news wedding photographer: natalie+ fred 09.26.11

natalie and fred are a such a sweet couple! i had the pleasure of meeting them in may 2011, several months before their september wedding.  we got together for their engagement session at the gorgeous norfolk botanical gardens. we spent a couple hours getting to know one another and i took well over two hundred pics of them! i just knew they were going to be great the day of their wedding.

natalie and fred's wedding was held just a few miles away at yet another fabulous place, the mariners' museum. terry joined me on the weekend trip back up to tidewater virginia to keep me company and assist me the day of their wedding. he is turning out to be a fantastic assistant, not to mention a wonderful road trip companion!

unfortunately it was drizzling the morning of the wedding. so natalie and fred were unable to have the ceremony in the garden as originally planned.  nice that the museum offers an indoor backup plan.  we were grateful that it cleared up in time to capture a few shots of the newlyweds by the water and in the garden afterwards. the museum offered free tours to their guests while we photographed the wedding party... what a great idea! if you haven't been to this museum, you must go!

natalie is originally from brazil and while working in this country as an au pair she met fred on a skiing trip in the virginia mountains. many of her family and friends traveled all the way from brazil and many of fred's family from japan and other parts of the united states. natalie's sister was her maid-of-honor and fred's brother, best man. several of natalie's children she cares for were in the wedding party. the two flower girls were adorable!  but then so were the ring bearers...such cuteness!

i thought the theme of this wedding which was "lovebirds" was so sweet and their colors were so complimentary to one another, pale blue, pale orange, and khaki.  and i loved the feathers which were added to natalie's bouquet & in Fred's boutineer.  the cake was so pretty and delicious with an adorable lovebird wooden cake topper.  they also served brigadeiro brazilian chocolates with the cake {fred originally proposed to natalie by hiding her ring in brigadeiro!}.

a joyous day it certainly was!  enjoy the photos as much as i enjoyed taking them!
