i've known ellen for about twelve years now. we met through mutual friends. i became ellen's "summer mom" to her two sweet dogs ottley {a yellow lab} and sophie {a rescue beagle}. i would often house/pet sit for ellen when she would have to travel out of town.
i remember about the time when she met mark & i just knew she had found a keeper! sophie was super shy around many people, in particular men. but when mark won over this sweet pup's heart and trust, we all knew he was it . i have to think animals know best when selecting your soulmate for you {i would know!}. when ellen and mark became engaged i was so thrilled for them both and even more tickled when they asked me to document their wedding, which was held in charlottesville on november 20, 2004.
a month before their wedding we met in one of the gardens at the university of virginia for their engagment session. i'll never forgotten that day! it was a warm fall day and the dogs were thrilled to be outdoors in a new place. mark said sophie wiggled and squirmed in his arms the entire time and when she finally got free, she took off after a rabbit! her nose was working overtime that day, she clearly was not interested in a photo session!

i'm so grateful that we've stayed in touch since i moved away six years ago. i sure missed seeing the pups on a regular basis and i was so saddened when sophie passed on two years ago. we've kept in touch all this time through emails, christmas cards, and finally the birth announcement when baby avery was welcomed into this world last november. i am so happy for ellen and mark, they have such a lovely family!
avery is now 8 months old and about the cutest little thing i ever did see. she's a happy-go-lucky baby and smiles all the time. i just love her chubby cheeks and her "michelin legs"... too cute! our only regret the day of their session was not including ottley, who is now 15. we didn't want to wake her from her beauty rest! this is another excuse to head back to charlottesville to visit them again... and for another photo session. sweet pup included next time around!
