durham wedding photographer: kate+james 03.26.11

once again, i had the wonderful opportunity to work with another super talented photographer, my friend and colleague jen of j.b haygood photography at another fabulous wedding. you may remember jen from her maternity session last spring. i was so thrilled when she asked me if i'd like to come help photograph kate and james's wedding at duke chapel, which took place two saturdays ago.

we were grateful the rain held off until after the ceremony so that we could get a few shots outside, where the light was simply beautiful for portraits. the weather has been all over the place lately and it had even been in the 80's just a few days before the couple's wedding.  the day of their wedding it was literally in the 40's...  that's springtime in north carolina for you!  while outside, without a doubt the gals were very happy to have cardigans to wear and they made for some colorful, fun photo ops as well.

james is a graduate of duke university and kate, the university of north carolina.  so it was only fitting (and fair!) that they have the ceremony at duke chapel and the reception in chapel hill at the carolina club.  i loved many of the details and design the couple incorporated into their day. the bright cheerful yellow flowers the bridesmaids carried complimented their gowns and the same color palette was repeated at the reception including the wooden yellow monograms on the windows and numbers on the tables.  yellow always makes me smile!

the cake looked and smelled delicious with its "dreamy" creamy icing on it.  the wooden "embracing couple" cake topper and yellow flowers dressed it up, making it one of the prettiest cakes i've ever laid eyes on.  and if you look closely at the cake stand you can read the sentiments carved into the wood {seize the day, follow your heart, dream big}.  if i ever remarry, this will be our cake!  do you think i took enough pics of the cake, already?!

i felt honored to be part of kate and james's special day and to have worked alongside with jen. i am really loving working with so many talented photographers!  what fun!
