tanima+enamul: a beautiful bangladeshi wedding • charlottesville, va

its never too late to post a wedding. as i write this on a chilly january morning, i think back to one of the hottest days of 2012.  it was 104 degrees that day, even in the higher elevations of charlottesville.

despite the soaring temperatures, tanima and enamul couldn't have had a more beautiful wedding. they'd chosen the university of virginia for their festivities as they are both graduate students there. originally, they had planned to have their ceremony in garden x within the university's academical village. however, the morning of they decided to have it at the inn, where the reception was also held. always good to have a weather back-up plan!

tanima and enamul are both originally from bangladesh & incorporated many of their eastern style traditions into their wedding day. from the gorgeous red and gold sari worn by tanima to the henna, which her friends painted on her hands. tanima was stunning!   enamul, looking handsome, wore a white kurta with a vibrant red scarf.

many of my favorite images of the day are those of tanima and enamul alone. once the reception was underway, the three of us slipped away to the university's lawn, which is very close to the inn. the light was incredible as the sun started to set & it finally cooled down somewhat. i'm so glad they made time for this!

tanima and enamul were such a sweet couple, who are very much in love. it will be a wedding to remember!

charlottesville wedding: becky+ajay 05.02.10

my fabulous assistant, lisa, and i headed up to charlottesville, virginia for becky and ajay's sunday, may 2nd wedding and what a fun day it was! friends and family traveled from as far away as india, the united kingdom, canada, as well as from all parts of the US. it was a day filled with love, happiness, traditions, and so rich in culture.

becky and ajay chose to to see one another prior to the ceremony so we met on the lawn of the university of virginia for some photo ops of the couple together, as well as the wedding party. that way they could join their guests soon after the ceremony at the reception. they truly enjoyed themselves, as the pictures show!

the ceremony was held in the university of virginia chapel and the rev. claire goodman performed the most beautiful ceremony! becky and ajay included several readers in their ceremony as well as lighting of the unity candle. In addition to exchanging rings, the couple exchanged flower garlands (known as varmala) to symbolize their love. The garlands were made of brightly hued flowers and were draped around the couples necks. varmala are considered to be an important ritual during a hindu wedding ceremony.

after the ceremony everyone headed out to the greencroft club in nearby ivy to celebrate good times, great music, fabulous cuisine, and lots of fun! in memory of becky's father, the couple chose to cut their wedding cake with his naval officers sword. so, so sweet and one of the most touching aspects of the day. i know he must've been looking down on his daughter with a big smile.
