Couple's Session - Haley + Jacob - Downtown Greensboro

Haley has been mentoring under me since last fall, so many of you may recognize her. I was honored & flattered when she and her boyfriend Jacob scheduled me for a couple's session. We met up in downtown Greensboro early one morning back in April.  Both April and May were completely insane!  And on that note, I'm just now getting around to posting a few favorites from their session.

We had a great time that morning - Jacob was a real trooper for wanting to join in & for that early in the morning too.  They are so sweet together and its particularly refreshing to see such a young man really love and appreciate his sweetheart. Haley, you got yourself a keeper :) Downtown Greensboro made for a great backdrop for their session - the brick walls, courtyards,  & the vine-covered wall offered such a variety. Meeting early was key as the sun was high even by 8am!

These two met at GTCC last year - Haley heads off to Randolph Community College for their photography program this fall and I believe Jacob eventually has plans to transfer to NC State in Raleigh.  Haley recently started waitressing at Bravo! Cucina Italiana in Friendly Center (be sure to go and ask to sit in her section!). I will miss having her around as much this summer (thrilled she can help me with my next wedding, however!). But also excited just knowing she may come back some day to intern with me for credit at RCC.

A girl and her dog - Grayson & Dixie!

This afternoon, I will be meeting up with Grayson again for her college graduation session on the campus of UNCG where she'll be graduating in May.  Its hard to believe she will be graduating from college, as I've known her for nine years now - since she was in middle school at St. Pius! Grayson has become such a lovely young lady & she's always a pleasure to be around. 

Its been a long time coming, posting these photos of Grayson from late last summer.  Somehow my crazy fall schedule got in the way & I never got around to posting them - until now! We got together on her parent's farm, Three Oaks Farm, out in Gibsonville, as she needed a head shot for her debutante listing. Towards the end of her session, we did some fun portraits of Grayson with her sweet dog, Dixie. Many of these are my favorites!

This afternoon, I secretly hope that Grayson includes Dixie in part of her session!  We will be doing some "cap & gown" shots as well as some informal fun shots around campus. Stay tuned for photos coming soon. This time, I won't wait so long to post them. And in the very least before her college graduation!

haley - high school senior session

The very lovely Haley came out to my farm for an on location high school senior session in late May & we had a blast!  Haley actually graduated right around that time from a program at the local community college for high school students, so she was a class of 2015 graduate.  This summer,  I've been working with rising class of 2016 seniors, so its never to early to schedule YOUR session {or in Haley's case, too late}!

We started off at my place and then drove to a couple of locations nearby for different scenery including on the river.  Haley was adventurous enough to want to climb out on to some rocks in her dress!   She also plays the ukulele, so she brought that along to be included in a few of her portraits.  I also offered a few closeups in the studio the day she came out.  I wanted to give her variety, by allowing her to change into several outfits & to going to a couple of different locations. 

Last fall,  I actually met Haley for the first time as she was maid of honor in her oldest sister Casey's wedding, which I photographed too! Its been such a pleasure getting to know her entire family in the past year or so. Her mother, Rebecca, is awesome too & I learned that she works in clay and has a pottery studio. They are such a creative family and a joy to be around. Rebecca joined us the morning of Haley's session & she was not only fun, she was so helpful to have along to help out!

JUNE 2015 SPECIAL - professional head shots - in the studio or environmental

Many of you do not know that I offer professional head shots.  So to get the word out, today I'm posting a few samples for you to see what I do.  Head shots are offered on location in an environmental setting or in the studio {or I can bring a backdrop and lights to you}. There are black, neutral grey, white, or blue back drops to choose from.

June seems like a great time to offer a special on head shots. Normally we charge $150.00 for a studio and/or environmental head shot, however this month only {June 2015} we are offering them at $100 if you come to us or $125 if we travel to you, which can be anywhere in the Triad or some areas of the Triangle {North Carolina}. So without further ado here are samples I've done for two of my clients, along with a little bio of each.

Jenny Viars, Photographer

Jenny Viars is the owner and photographer at Dancing Lemur, based in Winston-Salem. She also works as the youth manager at the non-profit organization, A Brighter Path Foundation.  Jenny is involved in the Winston-Salem Theatre Alliance, with the River Run International Film Festival, and is the official photographer for the band, Big Daddy Love - among many other things. She is quite the busy gal! 

Jenny & I met at Old Salem Village & Salem College for her headshot.  This location always makes for a beautiful setting for a portrait of any kind.  Many of my own clients have met or will have the opportunity to meet Jenny in the future, as she often works for me as my second photographer at weddings. Every now & then she has been along to assist me while I'm shooting a bridal, engagement, or other lifestyle session as well.   We also got to work together at several of the events during the 2015 River Run International Film Festival this spring.

Ross Howell, Author 

Ross Howell Jr. is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of English at the University of Elon. He is currently writing his first novel, Forsaken, based on historical nonfiction. Be sure to visit his website for more information. Ross chose to do environmental & studio head shots, so that his publishers would have a variety to select from for marketing as well as an author photo for the book jacket & for his website.  

Ross & I have known each other for about 18 years now & met when we both lived in Charlottesville, VA. A publisher at the time, Ross worked with my father, Chiles T.A. Larson, on publishing his first book Virginia's Past Today. Ross moved to the Greensboro area about year after I did & we reconnected shortly thereafter. I was honored when he asked me to photograph his wedding in 2010.  

Forsaken is expected to be available sometime in February 2016. Be sure to follow his website and/or blog for more information. I look forward to receiving an inscribed copy and to of course to reading his novel.
