you never know who you might meet at the post office! earlier this winter, i was standing in line and another gal was purchasing stamps for her save-the-dates for her upcoming wedding. she turned and asked me which ones i thought would be best. well, of course we started talking weddings and it just so happened she was looking for a photographer!
fast forward several months to may 12th, their big day. kelley and yancy chose to have their wedding in the great outdoors at haw river state park. the location was only fitting, as kelley is the park's new superintendent, not to mention the couple originally met through their state park jobs. what a beautiful setting it was and the weather couldn't of been any better that day!
the late afternoon ceremony was held under two old walnut trees on an area of the park known as the farm. chinese paper lanterns hung high in the trees above the wooden archway adorned with flowers and wind chimes. the bluegrass band {and friends of the couple}, big fat gap, performed during the ceremony and at the reception. what fun!
kelley and yancy included many personal touches to truly make it their day. kelley's collection of vintage salt & pepper shakers were on each table at the reception. they also hand-made ornaments to hold family photographs displayed on the tables. they utilized two canoes to hold gifts from their guests and another as a cooler to chill drinks in at the reception. perfect for a couple who loves to paddle! and i loved the chuck taylor high tops "the Lorax" kelley changed into at the reception. her dancing shoes!
any bride wearing high tops on their wedding day would have to be fun, laid back, and have a great sense of humor! and that describes kelley to a 't'. and this is where her sense of humor really shined though. she'd asked a friend to make a sign for those to turn off their cell phones during the ceremony. it was to read 'silence your cells' and her friend misunderstood her and made a sign that said 'silence yourselves'! it was so incredibly funny, she decided they should put them both out!
an eco-friendly couple, they also incorporated some "green" ideas into their big day. they sent out save-the-date postcards {on recycled paper}, however they set up a wedding website for their guests to rsvp to the actual wedding. at the reception they used biodegradable compostable utensils, cups, and plates. i think its great that more couples are becoming aware of how important our environment is, as are many wedding professionals, including myself.

terry and i truly enjoyed documenting kelley & yancy's wedding. i feel as if i made a friend that day at the post office and look forward to seeing them again. we hope to go paddling with them sometime!

Those canoes are such a fun idea! Plus that cake is amazing!
What a fun wedding this looks like. I agree, the canoe idea is pretty spectacular and we just might borrow that at own wedding next summer (which is going to be on a lake!). Awesome pictures!
