terry joined me on the trip back up to virginia for kristen and richard's wedding at the homestead in the charming town of hot springs. originally built in 1766, the homestead is a beautiful historic resort and spa in the midst of the allegheny mountains. the weather turned brisk the weekend of their wedding and we heard rumors it snowed just west of the resort. the fall color was just starting to pop, due to cooler temps in higher elevations which was such a pleasant surprise!
kristen and richard reside in richmond, virginia and planned their destination wedding at the homestead, knowing that it would be a relaxing get-away and mini vacation for their guests who traveled from all over. the day of their wedding was the first time we'd met. after months of corresponding, their day was finally here. i loved working with them, they were such a warm and gracious couple. i adored kristen's wedding gown and the sash really brought her look together. such a pretty bride and handsome groom!
the ceremony and reception were both held in the crystal ballroom, an elegant grand room with natural light filling in from the courtyard. i loved the southern charm of this wedding. it was pretty chilly the day of their wedding and the rain was threatening on and off all day, so we were only able to take a few pictures outdoors prior. but never fear! no matter where you are at the homestead, inside or out, you can find a great location for photos.
after an evening of dancing, the homestead's "famous donuts" were served with fresh strawberries and whipped cream at the end of the reception. the younger guests were certainly happy about that, as was richard's father whom i caught carrying a tray of them away! that's one of my favorite pics of the evening! the guests signed post cards from the homestead with their well wishes and placed them in a basket for kristen and richard to read later. and as the guests departed, they were treated with gourmet candies and chocolates in burlap hand-tied bags.
i'm so thrilled terry joined me for another wedding weekend away. he's wonderful company and he also helped me as my photographer's assistant at the wedding. did i mention he was the best? after many hours on our feet the evening of the wedding, we took advantage the next morning to soak in the natural mineral springs at jefferson pools. after soaking, getting out of the 98 degree springs and into 43 degree unheated changing rooms was a bit of an eye opener . needless to say, it kept us awake for the long drive home! i think it was the first time i wasn't sore the day after a wedding.
