katie + derek - keswick vineyards wedding

katie and derek's wedding was held on memorial day weekend at the fabulous keswick vineyards. katie's dress was one of a kind! i loved how it was adorned with a ruffle trim & a fabric flower with broach, however what made it so unique was that it was 2 dresses in one. later in the evening at the reception she removed the bottom portion including the train, to dance the night away in!  katie & derek chose to do a first look before the ceremony which was so, so sweet and gave them some private time together. i loved the look on derek's face when he saw his beautiful bride for the first time.

 katie and derek had a large wedding party consisting of the matron of honor, 7 bridesmaids, the best man, 7 groomsmen, & the groom's niece was the flower girl. i was so grateful to have jenny there co-shooting with me! the patio & stairs around the pool were fabulous for gathering large groups for photos.  cindy, owner of keswick vineyards, was kind enough to take katie, derek, & me around in a golf cart to the best locations throughout the property, while jenny photographed the cocktail hour. one of the most memorable things about their day, at least to jenny and i, were the 17 year cicadas. not only did we nearly have to shout over their chorus, we had to do battle with them by keeping them out of katie's veil!  luckily once the sun started to set, the cicadas finally settled in for the evening.

katie's mother, who is an interior designer, provided much of the decor and attention to detail to make their wedding day extra special. navy, ivory, & bright green were carried throughout in the decor of their wedding. i loved the iron gates, the beautiful flowers & wine barrel they had at the entryway to the ceremony and the flowers hanging from shepherds hooks in buckets on the chairs. they also had two wine barrels and an old door made into a bar at the reception, which was just perfect for a winery wedding.  bbq exchange provided a delicious southern meal & jaclyn was wonderful to work with. according to katie and derek, she was very helpful in planning out their day.  their dj derek tobler is one of the best in the business.  he knows how to keep a party going & make it fun for all!

months after their wedding, i received the sweetest thank you note from katie & derek accompanied by one of their favorite photos from their wedding. there's something about a handwritten note that means so much, i was so touched that they took the time to do this! what a lovely couple they are!
