west virginia wedding photographer: leslie+matt 10.15.11

leslie and matt are world travelers! they met at NC State in raleigh as students, eventually both moving to california.  they lived there for three years while continuing their educations, leslie studied at stanford and matt at berkeley. leslie then moved to france almost a year ago for her post doctorate work. matt is currently residing in the DC area, but his work takes him as far away as east africa. i'm impressed with how they have been able to manage a long distance relationship, busy careers, and so much travel in between. they are truly in love and it shows!

though leslie grew up in greensboro and her parents still reside there, she spent many vacations with her family in west virginia at flat top lake near ghent. when she and matt became engaged, they decided a fall wedding in the mountains would be a great place for all of their friends and family to come together for the celebration. they were right on!  fall color was at its peak that weekend & the weather was warm and sunny, perfect for their outdoor ceremony they were planning.  they chose a fabulous venue called foxwood, a bed and breakfast on the top of flat top mountain.

leslie purchased her gorgeous two layer lace wedding gown in france and a seamstress added the tulle straps. her fabulous shoes were also purchased in france. leslie looked amazing! her six bridesmaids selected their own gowns in shades of grey.  leslie gave each of her gals vintage-looking scarves in multiple hues, which she also purchased in france.

leslie and matt decided to have a first look before the ceremony, so we set up a time and private spot overlooking the mountains behind the main house, foxwood, in the gardens. i loved witnessing this. it was such a sweet moment, a quiet time where they could be together. i think more couples should do this!

the ceremony was held on the front side of the foxwood house overlooking one of the beautiful ponds under a wooden arch. afterwards, the wedding party climbed into the back of leslie's father's pickup truck for a ride over to mulberry house where the reception was held. a tent was set up outdoors where the band played, guests danced, and where terry and i set up the photobooth.  the guests had so much fun with the photobooth and all the silly props, it was a total hit!

a buffet style dinner was inside the house and the food was delish!  instead of a wedding cake, leslie and matt chose several types of pies to serve. they did cut the groom's cake, a large map of the world {since they are world-travelers!}.

their wedding certainly was lovely and with so many personal touches. not to mention, leslie and matt were fabulous!
